Happy World Oceans Day! This day has been acknowledged for 30 years by many countries but was only officially declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2008. The objective of this day is to not only celebrate the significant contributions that our oceans play in our world and society at large, but also to recognize the increased challenges it now faces and the support it desperately needs.
This year’s theme is “Revitalization: collective action for the ocean”. Today, the United Nations is hosting its first ever hybrid celebration hosted in-person at the UN Headquarters in New York that will be broadcasted live at 10am ET.
