Happy Native American Heritage Month!
For over 3 decades, the month of November is recognized to honor and celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, histories, and important contributions and achievements of Native Americans. It is also a reminder to acknowledge the hardships and struggles both throughout history and in the present day for the first inhabitants of our country.
This tradition started in 1986 by President Reagan establishing a week long celebration set to line-up with Thanksgiving as “American Indian Week”, but has since evolved into a month long celebration first enacted by President George H.W. Bush in 1990 and each president since. The month is also commonly referred to as American Indian or Indigenous Peoples Month.
